The other night we decided to have a "fix your own" supper. Mason and Bruce decided to have oatmeal. I do not like oatmeal! So, I decided to make Malt-O-Meal. I mixed it up, toasted me two slices of white bread with butter and got ready to eat. I am not sure why, but I was so thinking of Mom.
Yes, Mom made us Malt-O-Meal and Cream of Wheat, but not all the time. There are so many more times that she made fried eggs and bacon or sausage and gravy. Maybe it is because I do not like fried eggs or sausage and gravy, but I cannot make Malt-O-Meal or Cream of Wheat without missing Mom.
So of course, I took a picture. I had thought about messaging the sisters and telling them I was going to have a great supper. Bruce looked at me like I had lost my mind. He asked me what I was doing. I replied, "Taking a picture." (with no sarcasm of course) He stated that, "Most people take pictures of gourmet meals. Not Malt-O-Meal."
That made me stop and think. What is gourmet? I think it is just something that others have told us is fancy or eaten more rarely than other meals. For me, Malt-O-Meal is eaten more rarely than most meals. It is something that is savored with found memories of meals from my past. I think that it taste way better than Prime Rib. I am also not one that goes with the crowd. So I feel that my Malt-O-Meal supper was gourmet. Just to prove it, here is my picture. Enjoy!
