School Time

It is that time again, time for school to start. Sometimes at this time of year, I am really excited and sometimes I am really sad. I love to see the kids come into school with their new backpacks, clothes and school supplies. There is so much excitement  the first day and so much hope for the upcoming year.

So why sad do you ask? As the new kids come into the school, I reflect on my own children and the years gone past. Julie loved the first day of school and spent weeks preparing and planning what to wear and how to do her hair. I would take a picture of Julie and Jacob on the first day of school and reminisce at how much they have grown. I no longer get to take those pictures as they are all grown up. In fact, this year my nephew Cotton leaves for his first year of college. It is Paloma's senior year. Niece and Nephew, Aspen and Mason are freshman in high school. The time is flying by - I miss my little ones. I guess that is why I stay in school:)

My Sisters

This past weekend I spent with my sisters, daughter Julie and niece Aspen. Shana made the comment if we weren't sisters, we would not have been friends in our non-sister life because we are so different. I guess I have to agree that yes, I doubt our paths would have ever crossed. However, I give thanks every day that we are sisters. I like to think Shana and Bette make up for my short comings and just maybe I help them out a little.

The thing about sister friends is the history. They have known you your whole life. And through the good and bad they were right there beside you. Mom used to say, "Your children will grow up and move out. Your husband can leave. But your sisters- they are forever." She was right - as always.

I love you sisters!

Flashback to the '80s!

When we went to UNLV a couple of weeks ago Cotton decided to wear his Daddy's hat. He has been wearing a pair of his cowboy boots for a while now, but decided that he should add the hat to make sure everyone knew he was from Texas. (Like the accent would give it away!)

The whole weekend I kept giggling because he so reminded me of Patrick Dempsey in "Can't Buy Me Love!!" I kept telling him that, but of course, he had not seen the movie. Tonight he told me he really wanted to get a cowboy hat to take with him to college. I told him, beening that it was Vegas, that I didn't think that he wanted a black one. He felt he did. I pulled up this picture to show him how Patrick Dempsey had looked in the movie.

We laughed hard! He has decided that he doesn't need a black one at least.

Oh that kid!!

Smells like home!

I made stew and cornbread tonight. I love the way it smells like Mom's while it is cooking.  Yummy.

Take me away!!!

I am tired! I was up at 5:00, out the door at 6:30, to Lubbock for an all day training, stopped in Muleshoe at United to pick up stuff for LAB meeting tomorrow, home at 6:30 to spend an hour and a half on Aspen's STUPID Spanish homework, just put her in the bath and I haven't even started cooking for LAB. Where is Calgone when you need it?

The Best Mom!!

Texas has a Whore House in it!!
Over the last couple of weeks, Aspen has pointed out on many occasions that Mom was a much better mom than I am. (I agree.) So, tonight we are looking for a movie to watch on Netflix. I have 9 to 5 and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in our queue. She ask me what they are about. So I tell her all about 9 to 5. She is not interested. I tell her about Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She thinks she really needs to see what it is about and I tell her I was about her age when I saw it. Now she really wants to see it. Well, we did not make it through the opening where they tell about how it got it's name. She did not think she needed to watch it. She is so funny. Mom is still the BEST!!
