Sunday's

When Mom was alive and I was a county agent, Sunday evenings were ours. Mom would give me her grocery list and I would buy her groceries and then fix supper and take it to her. We would sit in the dining room and eat and watch Big Brother and then Amazing Race. I still have a hard time with Sunday evenings. I really miss you Mom.

I have several old quilts I have acquired I wish I could show you. Friday I am going to the Ogalalla Quilt Festival. I am going to take a class on cleaning and servicing the feather weights. I have three feather weights now. I hope we get to quilt in Heaven. I bet the threads are strings of gold!

Sunday is ending and Monday will be here before I know it. I will close for now and dream of quilts, Momma and Heaven.

The kids

"If we are all together and have something to eat, that is all I want." Many times, we heard these words from Mom. Now that most of our kids have left home, my sisters and I understand that better than ever!

Thanks to Shana, we had a wonderful dinner and almost all of us were together. Keaton had to work:( and we have added a few new face. I love it when we are together and having little ones again is a blast!

It may not be Gourmet

The other night we decided to have a "fix your own" supper. Mason and Bruce decided to have oatmeal. I do not like oatmeal! So, I decided to make Malt-O-Meal. I mixed it up, toasted me two slices of white bread with butter and got ready to eat. I am not sure why, but I was so thinking of Mom.
Yes, Mom made us Malt-O-Meal and Cream of Wheat, but not all the time. There are so many more times that she made fried eggs and bacon or sausage and gravy. Maybe it is because I do not like fried eggs or sausage and gravy, but I cannot make Malt-O-Meal or Cream of Wheat without missing Mom.
So of course, I took a picture. I had thought about messaging the sisters and telling them I was going to have a great supper. Bruce looked at me like I had lost my mind. He asked me what I was doing. I replied, "Taking a picture." (with no sarcasm of course) He stated that, "Most people take pictures of gourmet meals. Not Malt-O-Meal."
That made me stop and think. What is gourmet? I think it is just something that others have told us is fancy or eaten more rarely than other meals. For me, Malt-O-Meal is eaten more rarely than most meals. It is something that is savored with found memories of meals from my past. I think that it taste way better than Prime Rib. I am also not one that goes with the crowd. So I feel that my Malt-O-Meal supper was gourmet. Just to prove it, here is my picture. Enjoy!

Dawn's Birthday!

I know that everyone always says that they have the best sister, but there is no way, because my sisters are the BEST! I feel that I am the most blessed of the 3 of us because I get to have a big sister and a little sister. So for me it is the best of both worlds!

Well tomorrow is Dawn's birthday. I'm not sure why this one is bothering her, but it is. We are not going to be able to get together on her birthday, but we are all going to get together the day after for supper. I'm OK with that as long as we get together.

I want you to know that I am truly blessed to have you as a big sister. I cannot think of any way that you could be any better. You are the person I call when I need help, to just ask a question, to give advise, to complain, ... the list goes on and on. You are always there for me, but even more than that, you are there for my kids. You talk to, scold and love them all and they all know it. I am not sure where we would be if you weren't there for us! Thank you for all you do and give.

I hope your birthday is as wonderful as you are! Love you the mostest!

School Time

It is that time again, time for school to start. Sometimes at this time of year, I am really excited and sometimes I am really sad. I love to see the kids come into school with their new backpacks, clothes and school supplies. There is so much excitement  the first day and so much hope for the upcoming year.

So why sad do you ask? As the new kids come into the school, I reflect on my own children and the years gone past. Julie loved the first day of school and spent weeks preparing and planning what to wear and how to do her hair. I would take a picture of Julie and Jacob on the first day of school and reminisce at how much they have grown. I no longer get to take those pictures as they are all grown up. In fact, this year my nephew Cotton leaves for his first year of college. It is Paloma's senior year. Niece and Nephew, Aspen and Mason are freshman in high school. The time is flying by - I miss my little ones. I guess that is why I stay in school:)

My Sisters

This past weekend I spent with my sisters, daughter Julie and niece Aspen. Shana made the comment if we weren't sisters, we would not have been friends in our non-sister life because we are so different. I guess I have to agree that yes, I doubt our paths would have ever crossed. However, I give thanks every day that we are sisters. I like to think Shana and Bette make up for my short comings and just maybe I help them out a little.

The thing about sister friends is the history. They have known you your whole life. And through the good and bad they were right there beside you. Mom used to say, "Your children will grow up and move out. Your husband can leave. But your sisters- they are forever." She was right - as always.

I love you sisters!

Flashback to the '80s!

When we went to UNLV a couple of weeks ago Cotton decided to wear his Daddy's hat. He has been wearing a pair of his cowboy boots for a while now, but decided that he should add the hat to make sure everyone knew he was from Texas. (Like the accent would give it away!)

The whole weekend I kept giggling because he so reminded me of Patrick Dempsey in "Can't Buy Me Love!!" I kept telling him that, but of course, he had not seen the movie. Tonight he told me he really wanted to get a cowboy hat to take with him to college. I told him, beening that it was Vegas, that I didn't think that he wanted a black one. He felt he did. I pulled up this picture to show him how Patrick Dempsey had looked in the movie.

We laughed hard! He has decided that he doesn't need a black one at least.

Oh that kid!!
